Thank you for travelling to celebrate with us in Vadodara — also known as Baroda, the cultural capital of Gujarat.
Once the royal seat of the Gaekwad dynasty, the city is a beautiful blend of Maratha heritage, Indo-Saracenic palaces, vibrant markets, and warm Gujarati hospitality.

Before You Go
January is peak season in Vadodara — the weather is at its most pleasant and perfect for outdoor ceremonies. Book flights and hotels early.
Expect pleasant weather around 15–25°C (59–77°F). Peak tourist season across Gujarat — early booking is essential.
Vadodara Airport (BDQ)
Domestic airport in Harni, ~6 km from the centre. Direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad & Bengaluru.
Via Mumbai or Ahmedabad
Most international guests fly into Mumbai (BOM) or Ahmedabad (AMD), then connect by flight, train, or car.
Vadodara Junction
One of Gujarat's busiest stations. Mumbai ~5 hrs, Ahmedabad ~1.5 hrs, plus Delhi & beyond.
Well connected via NH 48
Ahmedabad 1.5–2 hrs · Surat ~2.5 hrs · Mumbai 6–7 hrs by car.
Visa & Documents — International Guests
Apply online at the official Government of India e-Visa portal, indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa. Be cautious of look-alike third-party sites that charge extra fees.
At least 4 days before travel, and no earlier than 120 days before arrival.
30-day single entry, 1-year, or 5-year multiple-entry visas.
A digital passport photo, a scan of your passport bio page, and a card for the fee.
6 months validity, 2 blank pages. Carry printed e-Visa, e-ticket & hotel booking.

Gujarat is warm & welcoming. A smile and a "Kem cho?" go a long way.

Vadodara is compact and easy to navigate. Ola and Uber are reliable and affordable — download the apps before you arrive.
From Vadodara Airport (BDQ)
~6 km / 15–20 min to most hotels. Prepaid taxis, Ola and Uber available at the airport.
From Vadodara Junction
~5–7 km to Alkapuri hotels. Use the prepaid taxi counter or Ola/Uber.
Estimated Cost
About ₹200–400 by taxi to most hotels in the city.
Shuttles between the hotel and wedding venues may be arranged — pickup times will be shared closer to the dates.

Widely available and affordable. The easiest way to get around — download the apps first.
Auto-rickshaws
Great for short distances. Agree on the fare or insist on the meter before starting.
Hired Car & Driver
Best for day trips. Hotels can arrange one — expect ₹2,500–4,000 per day.
Self-Drive Rentals
Not recommended for first-time visitors — local traffic can be intense.

A 19th-century mansion with intricate Maratha-era wooden carvings and wall paintings.
Sayaji Baug (Kamati Baug)
The largest garden in Western India — home to a zoo, planetarium, and toy train. Lovely for an evening stroll.
Sursagar Lake
A picturesque city-centre lake with a 120-foot Shiva statue rising from the water.
Best at sunsetAjwa Nimeta Garden
An evening musical-fountain show, about 20 km from the city.
Khanderao Market
A bustling traditional market in the old city — great for spices, textiles, and local flavour.
Mandvi Market
Best for Bandhani sarees (Gujarat's signature tie-dye), lac bangles, and silver jewellery.
Teen Darwaza & Raopura
Old-city lanes, wonderful for silver jewellery and traditional handicrafts.
Modern Malls
Inorbit, Centre Square & Seven Seas Mall — air-conditioned shopping and food courts.
Statue of Unity (Kevadia)
The world's tallest statue at 182 m, honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. ~90 km / 2 hrs — a full-day trip, so go early.
Champaner-Pavagadh
A UNESCO World Heritage site of Hindu and Islamic monuments, ~50 km / 1.5 hrs. Combine with the Kalika Mata temple atop Pavagadh hill.
Ahmedabad
Gujarat's largest city, ~1.5 hrs away — a UNESCO-listed old city, Sabarmati Ashram, and incredible street food.

A spicy curry topped with crunchy sev — a Vadodara favourite.
Vada Pav & Dabeli
Beloved street snacks — try Rainbow Vada Pav or Shiv Shakti Dabeli.
Customs & Good Sense
A few small notes to help you feel at home — and a handful of phrases that will earn warm smiles.
- Greet elders with "Namaste" (palms together) — a small bow shows respect.
- Remove your shoes before entering temples and most homes.
- Dress modestly at religious sites — shoulders and knees covered.
- Use your right hand for eating, giving, and receiving.
- Gujarat is a dry state — alcohol isn't sold, but tourists can apply for a liquor permit at the airport or larger hotels.
- Public displays of affection are uncommon — best saved for private.
- Bargaining is expected in markets, but not in shops with fixed prices.
Drink bottled water
Stick to bottled or filtered water, and avoid ice from unknown sources.
Eat where it's busy
High-turnover, well-reviewed places mean fresher food.
Ease into spice
New to Indian food? Ask for "medium" or "mild" to start.
Chemists everywhere
Pharmacies are well-stocked; carry hand sanitiser and tissues.
